Large Circle Casting Iron Nails

Shepherd dogs were likewise interred with their collars, whose iron fittings and bells were believed to secure them to their resting place. Iron church bells were thought to drive away wandering spirits through their sound, while the simple act of brandishing a piece of iron through the air was believed to disperse unseen presences. According to this understanding, no spirit willingly lingers where iron threatens to bind it against its will.
